Question 1

What is AI face recognition?

Accepted Answer

AI face recognition is a biometric technology that uses artificial intelligence to identify or verify a person's identity from a digital image or a video frame.

Question 2

How does AI face recognition technology function?

Accepted Answer

It works by analyzing unique facial features (nodal points) to create a mathematical 'faceprint' template, which is then compared against a database of known faceprints for a match.

Question 3

What are the primary applications of AI face recognition?

Accepted Answer

Key applications include unlocking smartphones, identity verification for banking, access control in buildings, public safety and security, and border control at international checkpoints.

Question 4

Is AI face recognition always accurate?

Accepted Answer

Accuracy has significantly improved, but it can still be affected by factors like lighting, angle, facial expressions, aging, and occlusions (e.g., masks, glasses), leading to potential errors.

Question 5

What are the ethical implications of using AI face recognition?

Accepted Answer

Ethical concerns include mass surveillance, privacy invasion, potential for bias in identification, and the risk of misuse or unauthorized data access, prompting calls for strict regulations.

Question 6

How does face recognition differ from face detection?

Accepted Answer

Face detection simply identifies the presence of a face in an image, while face recognition goes a step further to identify who that specific face belongs to.

Question 7

What security measures are in place to protect data in face recognition systems?

Accepted Answer

Robust security measures typically include encryption of biometric data, secure storage, access controls, compliance with data protection laws, and sometimes, anonymization techniques.
